Artist Rejane Cantoni enters the world of NFTs with first collection, "Floras"

The artist  Rejane Cantoni , considered one of the pioneers in Brazil at the intersection between technology and art, decided to enter the world of non-fungible tokens ( NFTs , in its acronym in English) from her  first collection in the segment . Called Floras, the work uses artificial intelligence and  cryptoativos  to portray images that refer to nature.

In addition to being an artist, Cantoni is also a researcher in the area of technological art, with works developed at the University of São Paulo. In an interview with EXAME, she says that the initial contact with the technology of non-fungible tokens was very "impacting", stimulating her to develop work using these new resources.

The opportunity came with an invitation to an exhibition at the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil in Rio de Janeiro (CCBB-RJ), with a theme of images of nature. The works were created from adaptations of light, generating videos of fractals that have a "natural appearance, and that together make up a kind of garden". In all, there are 200 works, all transformed into NFTs.

changes in art

In Cantoni's view, this resource "makes the work something collective" by encouraging the distribution and sharing of the arts as a way to increase its value. For Cantoni, this changes the logic of art collections and the definition of what is "rare" in this environment, replacing ideas such as keeping physical works of art in safes or buying them to display at home.

"Buying an NFT is buying a code, the work's information. This gives more freedom to use that art, it's buying intelligence, the code. It can be anywhere, the notion of ownership is different, you don't need to keep it, or exhibit at home, you want to spread it because it gains value by being in a network. It requires learning how to distribute the thing", he says.

In addition to crypto assets, the artist also adopted artificial intelligence to create the works, with new variations based on interactions between the arts themselves and also on feedback from viewers, who are encouraged to share which "versions" of the digital garden they liked best, guiding future productions in the collection.

Cantoni has exhibited at institutions such as Ars Electronica, The Creators Project, Glow and STRP Festivals, Espacio Fundación Telefónica, FILE International Festival of Electronic Language and Wonderspaces. The new collection is marketed from MakersPlace, a digital art marketplace that offers a platform for the creation, sale and collection of art, which is tokenized and transformed into NFTs.

The project launch took place on  NFT Brasil , an event that brought together more than 500 works by artists working with NFTs and virtual reality and artificial intelligence technologies to create a three-day exhibition at the Fundação Bienal, in Ibirapuera Park, in São Paulo.
