DeFi Kingdoms Heroes are live on Synapse
We are excited to share that we’ve launched support for DFK’s Heroes on Synapse!
DFK Heroes can now be bridged between Serendale (the Harmony realm) and Crystalvale (the DFK Chain realm). Along with Heroes, we’ve also enabled Gaia’s Tears to be bridged between Serendale and Harmony.
This launch is the first NFT use case supported by our cross-chain communications network, unlocking a massive new area of growth for the protocol. The NFT market today boasts a market cap of roughly $10.5 billion USD and saw over $10 billion USD in trading volume in Q1 2022 alone. As NFTs continue to grow, we look forward to expanding their reach and making them accessible across every blockchain.
The DeFi Kingdoms team continues to innovate and cement itself as a leader in cross-chain gaming, and we’re thrilled to continue providing the substrate powering all of its cross-chain interactions.
The launch of DFK Heroes on Synapse also highlights the extensibility of our cross-chain communications platform. While we’ve seen torrid growth in demand for traditional asset bridging, we expect new Synapse-enabled cross-chain NFT use cases to come to market rapidly.
What are Heroes?
Heroes are DFK’s famous in-game NFT, full RPG characters that are at the core of the DeFi Kingdoms economy. Heroes are unique because each one comes equipped with different stat blocks, consumable resources, stamina, and in-game leveling system. All of this variation dictates what strategy gamers employ. Players acquire Heroes from the game’s marketplace and use them in quests to accumulate in-game resources and professional skills. Soon, they will be able to use Heroes in PvP battles against other online players.
Another core component of the game is Hero summoning — the process by which new Hero NFTs are created. To summon a new Hero, two existing Heroes are combined alongside their unique traits. The new Hero NFT can then be listed for sale or used to play the game and acquire even more resources. Summoning also requires a different in-game NFT called Gaia’s tears, which we’ve also added support for so users can seamlessly complete their summons on both blockchains.
Heroes have grown massively since the launch of the game. Today there are:
- 187171 heroes
- 21843 individual holders
- 25,022,826.49 JEWEL worth of sales
How Heroes Bridging Works
We enable Heroes to be bridged between Serendale and Crystalvale through our canonical token bridging contracts.
Here’s how:
- Hero NFTs are sent into our Synapse bridging contract on the source chain
- Our bridging contract then locks that NFT and emits a corresponding cross-chain message to another Synapse bridging contract on the receiving chain
- Upon receiving the valid cross-chain message, the smart contract on the receiving chain mints a tokenized representation of the original asset
- Once the user wants to bridge back to the original source chain, the tokenized representation is sent to our smart contract, the token is burned, and the original asset is unlocked and sent back to the user
Multi-Chain Heroes
Currently, Heroes are only available in the Serendale realm on the Harmony blockchain, but alongside their new cross-chain upgrade, a new set of Heroes will be released in Crystalvale, which will also be cross-chain enabled.
Both sets of Heroes will have the ability to be used in both portals to summon new Heroes and, while quests aren’t yet live in Crystalvale, the new Heroes released on Crystalvale can be bridged and used for questing in Serendale. Over time, functionality on Crystalvale will expand so the Serendale native Heroes can be bridged and utilized in the realm.
