Meet 'Changdeokgung Secret Garden' with 500 years of history at Metaverse Zeppetto World
'Changdeokgung Secret Garden', which is gaining popularity for its tranquil scenery, can now be seen anytime, anywhere through the Metaverse. It is thanks to the 'Metaverse World' hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister Park Bo-gyun) and supervised by the Korea Craft & Design Foundation (Director Kim Tae-hoon).
Korea Craft & Design Culture Promotion Agency (hereinafter referred to as 'Gongjinwon') has built a world in 'ZEPETO', which is gaining popularity among MZs, and is operating the service, considering that the status of our traditional culture has risen worldwide. The traditional life culture metabus service 'Biwon: 500 Years Secret Garden (hereafter 'Biwon')' was created to widely disseminate traditional cultural contents unique to Korea and expand experience opportunities.
The secret garden embodied in the metaverse world was conceived from the actual Changdeokgung sponsorship. Buyongji Pond, Buyongjeong Pavilion, Yeonghwadang, Juhamnu Pavilion, Seohyanggak, and Eosumun were implemented as close to reality as possible in the world. In addition, traditional landscaping elements such as pine trees and crape myrtle have been implemented throughout the world so that you can feel the sense of relaxation and the season. Along with this, NPC avatars that reproduced characters from the past, such as Jeongjo and Jeong Yak-yong, and vehicles (rabbit and turtle) made from old novels such as Rabbit and Byeoljubujeon were placed to add to the fun.
Considering that the MZ generation, the main target, pursues more colorful pleasures, various entertainment and events based on traditional life culture are also prepared.
First, popular ZEPETO creators representing the MZ generation will participate and present 'K-Fashion', a new interpretation of the existing traditional hanbok items. It is a program to increase the familiarity of Hanbok, which feels far away. In addition, various event programs combined with traditional culture are operated in consideration of seasonal issues, such as 'Put Kimchi in the Jangdokdae' in line with the winter solstice and 'Make a wish and fly a lantern' in line with the winter solstice. A certification event is also running. After finding an event location hidden in 'Biwon' and participating in an event such as solving a quiz or writing a wish, if you post it on the feed, a lottery will be held and K-fashion items will be presented.
An official from Gongjinwon said, “The sponsorship of Changdeokgung Palace is a secret garden that is open to only a few people through reservation, and it is a beautiful place that retains its traditional appearance.” By implementing and providing various contents that are grafted with traditional life culture, we wanted to widely publicize Korea’s unique culture and increase intimacy.” He continued, “We are planning to introduce a variety of things to see, enjoy, and experience contents that reflect the needs of the MZ generation by season, so we look forward to many visits.”
Meanwhile, an offline exhibition linked with Metaverse World will also be held at Common Ground, a container pop-up shopping mall complex cultural space located in Jayang-dong, Seoul, from December 16th (Fri) to December 26th (Mon). It is composed of four themed spaces that remind one of the secret garden in the metaverse, and various online related exhibition contents such as the metaverse panorama and K-fashion showcase are operated. Along with this, we plan to organize various experiential events that incorporate avatars and traditional life and culture elements so that even those who are new to the metaverse world can easily access it.
