Hugo Faz launches video art and promotes Brazilian art in the open metaverse

In partnership with art collector and mega-investor 6529  (@punk6529 ) – which has been investing tens of millions of dollars in art and technology in the open metaverse, including major funds from venture capital in the US-,  Hugo Faz , artist, curator and collector, promoter of Brazilian art for Web3, NFTs and Open Metaverse, launches video art  “GM OM” , internet slang for Good Morning Open Metaverse (Bom Dia Metaverso Aberto, in Portuguese), but which in the crypto and NFT world is more than just a greeting. Recorded with the participation of volunteer artists in São Paulo and inspired by the work of American photographer Spencer Tunick and his photographs of groups of naked people in different cities around the world, Hugo gathered 50 naked bodies, painted in red, to create the acronym “ GM”, which in the end becomes “OM ” (Open Metaverse, or Open Metaverse), expressing the idea that "we are connected" and our future is promising. The video work, which also features digital animation by Paulo Biagioni and original soundtrack by Renato Navarro,  released on October 28 , it sold out its entire “run” of 569 authentic copies on the global NFT market in just 10 minutes. The selling price of 0.06529 ether (approximately US$ 100) each copy, allows the work as a whole to be valued at 300 thousand reais. The work was then transferred to the public domain, becoming part of  “The Memes” Collection, by 6529 , whose objective is the cultural diffusion of the open metaverse, that is, the internet that, as it works on blockchain, which is public, is not subject to the control of companies or governments, promoting the values of decentralization, community and self-sovereignty.

Hugo Faz, who has been working for 10 years on topics related to the body, identity, man-machine relationship, bio/necropolitics and cryptography, launched, in April 2021, his first work in NFT, a technology that allows artists to display and sell their works in the global crypto art market. By having a  photograph acquired by Playboy , in November of the same year, entered the market's radar and since then has had  his works in NFT  acquired by more than 40 individual collectors, in addition to more than 400 collectors of “GM OM”. Hugo maintains in São Paulo, since 2017, the  Estúdio NU , cultural space and photocinematographic studio dedicated to the arts of the body, and in 2022 launches a  Casa NUA , a new space entirely dedicated to NFT Art projects and exhibitions, with the purpose of integrating and launching, incubating and guiding, innovative artists from the developing world to the NFT Art space, working mainly with artists from social, racial minorities and gender.

The evolution of Web3, backed by cryptocurrencies, allows for an open cultural multiverse, independent of Web2 media corporations such as Meta (Facebook, Instagram), TikTok, Google, and government controls over ownership and transactions with digital goods. The trend is for growth to accelerate until the global consolidation of this movement driven by crypto art. “Brazil is unfortunately very late in adopting these new social, economic and cultural technologies. We are working with innovative artists from marginalized third world minorities – who the NFT space has not yet been able to integrate due to language, technology or cost barriers – in order to fill this gap”, says Faz.

“GM OM” can be seen in  OpenSea  –  largest marketplace for NFTs – and on the artist's channel no  YouTube .
