Metaverse Seoul selected as 'Best Invention of the Year' by Time magazine

The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 13th that 'Metabus Seoul' was selected as 'TIME's Best Inventions of 2022' by Time, an American current affairs weekly magazine.

TIME has annually selected and introduced groundbreaking inventions around the world, and this year it published a list of the 200 best inventions.

Metaverse Seoul was selected as the best invention in the metaverse field among 27 fields and was recognized as the only innovation case as a public invention.

The rest of the metaverse selections are △Mesh for Microsoft Teams △Actronika △Skinetic Haptic Vest △Magnopus, an immersive cross-device platform. (Magnopus)'s 'Connected Spaces', all of which are corporate inventions.

An official from Seoul said, "Metabus Seoul has received high attention from overseas as a metabus platform being built for the first time in cities around the world."

Overseas local governments and parliaments, such as Bandung, Indonesia and the Federal Council of Germany, also visited Korea to hear about the Metabus project.

In accordance with the 'Basic Plan for Metabus Seoul' established in October last year, the city of Seoul embarked on the first phase of the project this year. In the first half of this year, the pilot (test program) service called 'Metabus Seoul City Hall', and the metabus Seoul closed trial operation (CBT) in August, are improving the platform's completeness with the goal of providing the service at the end of November.

Lee Hye-kyung, Digital Policy Officer of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, said, “After successfully completing the first phase of the project this year, we will advance the platform to the world’s best level with the remaining second and third phase projects to enhance Seoul’s status as a leading smart city.”
