Ubisoft is Currently Selling 'Ezio's Digital Soul'

Ubisoft announces that Assassin's Creed 2 fans can now purchase new collectibles, including a unique digital version of Ezio's "soul".

Ubisoft has recently announced a digital collection of Asassin’s Creed-themed non-fungible tokens (NFTs), including the “digital souls” of famous characters such as Ezio. It’s safe to say that this is not what fans expect when they hear about a new appearance of Ezio outside of Assassin’s Creed, but it seems that Ubisoft continues to push its plans for NFTs forward despite how unpopular these products have become among gamers.

During the height of the NFT popularity back in 2021, Ubisoft was one of the first major gaming publishers to get on board the NFT hype train with its Ubisoft Quarts initiative, which would use blockchain technology to create unique offerings that would be sold digitally. The Ghost Recon NFTs sold by Ubisoft had disappointing sales soon afterward, proving that the customers were not so interested. However, this was not enough for the company to back away from the technology.

Now, Ubisoft is continuing its NFT plans via a partnership with a company called Integrated Reality Labs to create several “Smart Collectibles” based on Assassin’s Creed called Digital Souls. According to the official announcement, each character featured on the NFTs will have unique outfits and weapons, making each one different from any other collectible that exists in the collection. Players can purchase these NFTs via a blockchain platform called Polygon and then print them using a 3D printer. The figurines will be inside a cube that can be authenticated with a chip to prove their authenticity, in case someone ever needs to prove that their figurines are real.

Most gamers will be glad to know that these collectibles are completely separate from Ubisoft’s upcoming games. Someone may own “Ezio’s soul,” but this has no effect whatsoever on the rest of the world. The NFTs will come with a companion app that allows collectors to customize the character, try out “unique interactions,” and even “level them up.” At the moment, the price of these offerings is still not known. However, NFTs are digital collectibles based on scarcity, so they will probably not be very cheap.

Ubisoft is not the only company that has not given up on NFTs. Square Enix is also pushing NFTs forward with a new project called Symbiogenesis. Unlike the Assassin’s Creed collectibles, Symbiogenesis will be more like a full-blown game that will use blockchain technology to create NFTs, and then employ these unique tokens as part of its narrative.
