Shcherbakova’s father on the sale of NFTs in China: “We saw Anya’s popularity in Chinese social networks and decided to take a chance”

Olympic champion in figure skating   Anna Shcherbakova   and her father Stanislav spoke about the sale of digital tokens (NFT) in China.

20,000 NFTs from Shcherbakova's collection (it consisted of 5 photographs of Anna at significant moments in her career) were sold in a few days - 240,000 dollars were collected, the record for speed and the amount of NFT sales in China for one athlete was broken.

Whose idea was it anyway? Ice, training - and suddenly digital tokens...

Anna Shcherbakova:  Actually, I received NFT proposals a year ago, before the Olympics. And before the Games too. But, as you can imagine, I was not at all up to it. After the season, I was again offered to release the NFT collection, and then I asked my dad to help me figure it out in more detail - well, I decided to try.

Stanislav Shcherbakov :  Already after Beijing, Anya seriously thought about this topic, I went to a conference on cryptocurrencies and NFTs, talked to the market gurus. And they dissuaded me. They showed, for example, the extinct NFT project for the KHL. And this is a league with huge resources.

And after we abandoned the classic NFTs, an offer came from Chinese partners. It should be noted that China has its own NFT platforms, its own rules. They are called, strictly speaking, differently. We were shown that there is such a request from Chinese fans, we saw the popularity of Anya in Chinese social networks and decided to take a chance.

Was it hard to figure it out? Anya quickly entered the topic?

Stanislav Shcherbakov:  For those who grew up with a phone in their hands and set an alarm to harvest at night in their favorite iPhone game, there is no need to explain the value of virtual tokens. It would be more difficult to explain why collect postage stamps or vinyl records.

– Did you expect sales to be so high? Do you plan to continue?

Anna Shcherbakova:   For me, this was the first issue of NFT. Plus, the tokens were issued on a completely new Geetaverse platform. So it was hard to predict. And the ultimate success of a release is the result of the work of many people.

I am very grateful to our partners from China for the efforts that were invested in this project. And about the continuation... I just recently finished signing paper postcards for those who bought a complete set of digital ones. We will send them to China and we will think further. If there is a new interesting idea, we will implement it,” the Shcherbakovs said in an interview with Sports.ru.
