BPMG bets on legacy game IP for web3 adoption

Korean blockchain company BPMG has reinforced its long-term strategy with the announcement it’s focusing on integrating web3 mechanics into existing titles with established player communities, not launching new token-native games.

The company is looking to avoid one of blockchain gaming’s persistent problems: the cold-start challenge of building new games, new communities and new token economies simultaneously.

Rather than attempting to create entirely new web3-native titles from scratch, BPMG is leaning into games that already have scale, retention and recognisable IP.

Its gaming subsidiary Blomics operates a portfolio that includes Cooking Adventure, also known as Chef Tycoon, which has surpassed 30 million cumulative global downloads, and Tales Runner, a long-running online racing game with around 36 million global users. The portfolio also includes the Korean artillery shooter franchise Fortress 3 Blue and MMORPGs EOS RED and EOS BLACK.

BPMG’s thesis is straightforward. If blockchain gaming is to reach mainstream players, it may be more effective to add web3 participation layers to games people already know and play than to ask users to migrate into entirely new crypto-first experiences.

The company is doing this through POPLUS, its web3 community platform, and GHUB, its ecosystem utility token.

POPLUS is designed as a tokenized social and participation layer, allowing users to earn rewards through gameplay activity, content creation, community engagement and peer interaction. GHUB sits at the centre of this system as the platform’s core utility token.

Importantly, BPMG says it is not trying to redesign its games around token economies. Instead, the approach is to integrate blockchain participation features into existing live-service ecosystems, where player behaviour, social patterns and retention curves are already understood.

The company has also built POPLUS around a multi-chain infrastructure strategy. Supported networks and interoperability partners include Base, Kaia, Soneium, Scroll and LayerZero. The aim is to reduce onboarding friction and give the platform flexibility across different blockchain ecosystems.

The question now is whether BPMG can use blockchain participation systems to improve daily activity, retention and ecosystem engagement without disrupting the gameplay loops existing players already value.

If it can, its model may offer a practical blueprint for extending mature web2 game IP through web3 infrastructure rather than replacing it outright.
