How Wemade is encouraging crypto-curious Night Crows players to buy NFTs
It’s been two years since South Korean publisher Wemade released its mobile and PC MMORPG Night Crows, which includes optional blockchain assets such as NFTs and tokens. However, to celebrate the anniversary, the game has launched a new rolling event, which requires players to use character NFTs in order to access the game’s most rare gear.
It’s a significant change in emphasis; something we discussed with head of game business division, Michael Kim in the following interview.
BlockchainGamer.biz: Why did you decide to run an event in Night Crows for NFT holders?
Michael Kim: NFT Crusade is not content designed only for the Night Crows NFT holders. Rather, this new content is a bridge that connects NFT holders and token holders.
Night Crows’ blockchain content is built around two main components: a tokenomics system that operates with its base currency, CROW, and character NFTs. In July 2025, a new token, RAVN, was introduced and implemented along with its season content, allowing users to acquire RAVN through CROW staking. To expand the ways that our users could obtain RAVN, we explored several approaches and decided to develop new content leveraging character NFTs. The new content, NFT Crusade, is a feature where users can create their own squad using their character NFTs, participate in battles, engage in simulated combat and earn the seasonal token RAVN as a reward.
How do you hope it will engage with NFT holders and/or encourage players without NFTs to get involved in that aspect of the game?
To participate in NFT Crusade, users are required to use their character NFTs that meet a certain level of a character’s Growth Rate. You can purchase NFTs listed on the WEMIX PLAY NFT marketplace to create your own party, or you can simply mint your own Character NFTs by playing Night Crows.
To celebrate Night Crows’ 2nd anniversary, we are currently operating a special growth server called CROW Express. For players who do not yet own character NFTs, this server offers accelerated growth boosts, epic level gear, and various benefits, allowing them to quickly develop their characters, mint them as NFTs and finally participate in NFT Crusade. While minting an existing in-game character as an NFT normally requires 8,000 Diamonds, the Express server provides a special benefit that reduces the cost by half, enabling the minting fee for just 4,000 Diamonds.
In short, our goal is to deepen player engagement by giving existing NFTs a vital role in gameplay, while ensuring the Crow Express and minting discounts make the NFT ecosystem more inclusive and attainable for the entire community, particularly those who have yet to get involved with NFTs.
Can you provide any data about the proportion of players who have used blockchain elements?
Users are required to link the WEMIX PLAY app and activate their wallet in order to fully utilize the tokenomics aspect of Night Crows, as well as character NFT-related content. While we are unable to share specific figures, we have seen a significant portion of our player base actively engage with these features to enhance their gameplay experience. To encourage adoption of the blockchain elements of Night Crows, we also offer exclusive in-game rewards for wallet integration.
Do you think adding these blockchain elements has onboarded Night Crows’ most committed players to blockchain, or have they mainly been used by players who were already attracted to crypto?
While crypto natives have contributed to the expansion of the Night Crows ecosystem as they actively utilize its blockchain features, the game is open to all, including the crypto-curious players who simply want a fun gaming experience. In short, our core player base has served as both a catalyst for ecosystem growth and a key bridge connecting traditional gamers to blockchain experiences.
Having blockchain features in a game such as Night Crows adds a lot of complexity, as well as creating new risks in terms of how digital assets with real world value such as tokens and characters can be misused. How have you attempted to balance these challenges with the opportunities in terms of encouraging more committed, higher spending players?
From the outset, we aimed to design mechanisms that preserve the value of users’ digital assets while organically encouraging spending through engaging content. To this end, we differentiated the roles of utility tokens and currencies such as CROW, and introduced price stabilization and value retention measures to mitigate the risks inherent in token-based economies.
With the introduction of NFT Crusade, we have implemented a new system to ensure the secure transfer and accurate calculation of RAVN tokens distributed as rewards. We call this new system a “mass token distribution management system”.
It works as a verification mechanism that checks whether the correct amount of tokens is being accurately delivered to the intended users. The system checks and immediately triggers alerts in the event of any irregularities on a daily basis, helping to proactively prevent issues such as incorrect token distribution. This security framework has been integrated into Night Crows to reinforce reliability. By building trust through these measures, we aim to further strengthen player loyalty.
Do you think blockchain elements are appropriate for all types of games?
We do not believe that blockchain elements are limited to specific game genres. While we are currently focused on MMORPGs as a main game service, we are also making efforts to diversify the range of genres. As long as blockchain features are implemented appropriately and designed to enhance the overall gameplay experience, we believe they can be integrated into any type of game.
How does WEMADE hope to advance the integration of blockchain in its future games?
Leveraging the know-how and experience we have gained from more than two decades of AAA game service, we aim to create blockchain content that is highly accessible and easy for anyone to enjoy. While blockchain technology may be familiar to some, it can still feel foreign to many. From adapting to tokenomics-related terminology to understanding the somewhat unconventional concept of assetizing in-game items, new users often find it challenging to know where and how to begin.
For this reason, we plan to continue advancing our blockchain integration with a focus on simplicity. By moving away from unnecessary complexity and adopting a more straightforward tokenomics model, our goal is to create an experience that anyone can easily understand and enjoy.
