Web3 streaming platform Thousands reveals THOU token
Playful Studios has introduced the latest economic component to its web3 strategy with the announcement of the THOU token.
This is the governance token for its Thousands community and streaming infrastructure, which is currently live in its beta phase alongside the launch of Playful’s web2 PC MOBA Wildcard.
Playful has already launched its 100% community-focused WC token, airdropping 18% of the total supply to early adopters in a spend-only locked format. However, there hadn’t been any previous mention of a token for Thousands.
THOU will be deployed on Ethereum, but there’s as-yet no mention of when this could happen or tokenomic issues such as total supply and vesting etc.
But, as detailed in the Wildpaper 4.0 whitepaper, we do know users will earn THOU via Thousands’ XP system. This is currently going live via the Wildcard rollout, and will also be supported by any other games that use Thousands in the future.
In that way, XP will be earned by anyone who interacts with Wildcard, both in terms of Thousands’ streaming activity and Wildcard’s metagame.
Provided examples include;
- Competing in Wildcard’s sanctioned tournaments
- Investing in Wildcard character summons
- Buying sponsorship in one (or more) of the game’s factional houses
- Streaming Wildcard gameplay as an official media partner, and
- Watching streams on Thousands from verified creators.
All of these will generate Thousands XP, although the rates will obviously be higher for the more valuable activities. Watching streams is unlikely to earn you a lot of XP, for example, compared to spending $2,500 on the most valuable sponsorships in Wildcard
