Animoca announces its AI agents Animoca Minds

Animoca Brands has partnered with CryptoSlam to announce its Animoca Minds service, which will enable users to deploy their own persistent AI agents.

Animoca led CryptoSlam’s $9 million funding round in 2022, and later combined the data service with Forkast.News website to create Forkast Labs.

These AI agents will be powered by CryptoSlam’s cloud-based Ethoswarm technology, which gives agents their own identity, memory and cognition.

More importantly, it’s designed to give non-technical users access to this emerging technology in a safe and convenient manner. This is important as agents, such as on-device agents like OpenClaw, have been heavily criticized for their lack of out-of-the-box security, which can allow unauthorized access to everything on a user’s computer.

Running agents in a cloud setting immediately reduces some of these dangers. Animoca Minds will also use a simple interface and not require command line tools.

However, the goal is for Animoca Minds to offer the same flexibility as OpenClaw agents, allowing users to have their agents perform daily tasks via email and Telegram. Support for other systems will also be added, most likely including Discord and X.

Animoca Mind agents will also be blockchain-enabled in terms of their ownership model, and have the ability to trade tokens and perform DeFi actions if so directed by their owners.

No details were provided about which models Animoca Minds will use, but given their persistent nature, it’s likely to be a less capable open source technology such as LLaMA, Mistral or Chinese models such as Qwen and InternLM, not a very expensive frontier option such as Claude or ChatGPT.

“Ethoswarm was built to ensure that AI agents are persistent, sovereign, and safe. However, the true potential of this technology is only realized when it reaches the hands of everyday users,” said CryptoSlam CEO Randy Wasinger.

Animoca executive chairman Yat Siu, who is already using AI agents to run his email and other tasks, added: “We’re absolutely thrilled to launch Animoca Minds together with Ethoswarm and CryptoSlam.

“Blockchain provides AI with true agency: it provides ownership, settlement, and a native way to transact in tokenized goods and services. When agents can work through familiar channels like email or messaging, they can also make on-chain activity feel more natural than manually managing wallets and transactions.”
