OpenSea adds Solana NFT trading more than four years after initial beta

OpenSea has added support for Solana non-fungible tokens (NFTs), allowing users to buy, sell, and trade the blockchain's digital collectibles on its platform.

The launch comes more than four years after OpenSea first added Solana NFTs in beta in April 2022. That rollout covered just 165 collections and gained limited traction. Rivals Magic Eden and Tensor captured most of Solana NFT volume at the time. Earlier this year, Magic Eden shut its Bitcoin and Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) marketplaces to refocus on Solana.

Solana returned to OpenSea in April 2025 with OS2, but only for fungible tokens, with the company saying at the time that NFTs would follow. The SOL token also became usable as payment for NFTs on other blockchains last year.

"OS2 was rebuilt from the ground up as multi-chain platform. We led with Solana token support, and NFTs are now being added. They're particularly relevant now with the emergence of so many collectibles platforms utilizing Solana NFTs," an OpenSea representative told The Block.

Solana is OpenSea's first non-EVM chain for NFT trading since the beta ended. The marketplace's other supported networks are almost all EVM-compatible, including Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Avalanche, Base, Monad, Sei, and Berachain.

With its support for Solana, OpenSea said its users can now find and trade popular Solana NFT collections, including Claynosaurz, Mad Lads, BoDoggos, Collector Crypt, and Phygitals.

The launch comes with the NFT market far below its peak. Monthly marketplace volumes that ran into the billions of dollars in 2021 and 2022 now sit at a few hundred million dollars, according to The Block's data dashboard. Binance closed its centralized NFT service in June, telling users to withdraw transferable assets to Binance Wallet or another compatible external wallet. Nifty Gateway, Kraken NFT, and X2Y2 have also shut down in recent months and years.
