Reaper Actual raises more money as it preps for Steam Early Access in May

Following a difficult first playable test in 2025, things appear to be looking up for US studio Distinct Possibility and its web2/3 persistent extraction shooter Reaper Actual.

First up, it’s announced an additional undisclosed capital raise from blockchain and AI VC Decasonic. This investment will also see Decasonic’s CEO Paul Hsu and gaming veteran Bing Gordon (EA, Amazon, KPCB) joining its board of directors.

As for the game, it’s working towards a Steam Early Access release in May 2026.

As revealed in August 2025, Reaper Actual will be released in a pure web2 version on Steam with a web3 version accessed via the Distinct Possibility website, including NFT marketplace and customized servers for players who want to leverage that technology.

At least, that was the original plan. The new announcement doesn’t mention blockchain specifically, but Decasonic’s focus as a blockchain and AI VC suggests that web3 should still be on the roadmap.

“This additional funding, and Bing joining our board is a major milestone for Distinct Possibility Studios and a strong vote of confidence in our vision,” said CEO John Smedley.

“This gives us additional funding, expertise, and resources to continue polishing the player experience and ensure Reaper Actual is ready for a successful Steam Early Access launch in the coming weeks. We’re building something special, and this support allows us to deliver the kind of game our community deserves.”
