Portal rebooting with game account market for PUBG, Overwatch and Genshin Impact

With the rebooted Portal platform launching on Thursday 26th February, we’re starting to get a sense of what new functionality it will be delivering, beyond its PORTAL token running on the Base blockchain.

Surprisingly, one element highlighted is that Portal will enable users to “buy and sell game accounts securely with Portal market”.

The video provided shows someone buying an Apex Legends account for $500. They pay using USDC, with Portal Market handling the escrow process, which ensures the funds aren’t transferred until the buyer has successfully logged into the game account.

Of course, this sort of activity is against all such games’ terms and conditions. This hasn’t stopped a large grey market in account sales from flourishing, and adding the transparency of blockchain to these transactions would seem to be a positive move.

Yet, it’s not the sort of thing that will please the likes of EA, Krafton, Blizzard or MiHoYo; the companies behind some of the other games that Portal seems to be targeting.

These include PUBG, Genshin Impact, Hearthstone and Overwatch 2.

More generally, Portal will offer users the ability to log in using Moca Network’s AIK Kit ID system, and download a game overlay that enables them to complete missions and earn points.

These points can be used to buy gift cards for third-party gaming platforms such as PlayStation, Razer Gold, Roblox and Xbox Game Pass. The ability to buy in-game items such as skins is also promised.

If you’re interested, you can pre-register now, gaining 3,000 Portal Points in the process.
