Brazilians win international Social Impact hackathon. Polygon made a work proposal for winners.

 

Brazilian students from the Institute of Technology and Leadership (Inteli)  ranked first  no  Hacking for Trust . Tech challenge  web3  com 17 teams took place this weekend in phygital format.

 

The physical address chosen in Brazil for the marathon was a  TechHouse by Polygon , inside the  Educar+ , in Complexo do Chapadão, in the north of Rio de Janeiro. The site is home to an NGO that uses a  Web3 to teach  the local community about crypto assets and run courses to train a workforce that is already scarce in this ecosystem.

 

Competitors from Brazil, Kenya and Nigeria also participated simultaneously in the international hackathon supported by Impact Plus, the social arm of  Polygon . They were second and third respectively.

 

The journey had the technical support of professors from the American University of Georgetown, sponsors and had more than US$ 20,000 in prizes. Polygon distributed US$ 5,200 and made a proposal of  work  to the winners of Brazil.

 

Already a  1Inch  which had $18,000 in the prize pool but couldn't find projects that met its technical criteria. The platform  DeFi  bonded two projects with US$ 500, which it considered excellent. One of them was the Brazilian champion Carbon Verifier.

Technical competence, innovation, implementation of  blockchain , scalability, sustainability, security and real social impact were among the technical criteria for choosing the projects.

 

“Our goal was to be able to show how web3 technology can be a life-changing tool, above all. Although only five took the prize, all the registered projects proposed to do so.” explains Impact Plus Country Officer Brazil, Henrique  Aragon .

 

Inteli students' CarbonVerifier wins 1st prize from Polygon

CarbonVerifier – developed by students Henrique Marlon, Emanuele Lacerda, Elisa Flemer and Alberto Miranda – won a total of US$ 3,500 in prizes. The Inteli students' project combined technology  blockchain  and IoT to lessen the impacts of climate change on the planet.

 

The initiative uses a  smart contract  which receives and analyzes IoT sensor data to determine whether a company is eligible for coinage of   carbon credit tokens . The idea is to offer a transparent and secure solution for companies to offset their carbon emissions and eliminate third parties.

 

The group also received a proposal to be part of the Polygon Incubator, which was part of the Hacking For Trust award.

 

Brazilian Jornadas takes 2nd prize from Metamask

The Jornadas project, also from Brazil, won second prize from  Metamask , which bonuses the group with US$300.

 

Jornadas was created to offer support to minority groups in situations of violence using Metamask to receive funds. In addition to supporting complaints with psychological, legal and assistance support, the initiative wants to offer courses on entrepreneurship to train victims.   

   

“The connection with Metamask allows the receipt of resources and their management and in case the user does not have a wallet or does not have specific knowledge on how to open one, there will be a simple tutorial both in static explanation and in video to facilitate the opening process” he says one of the developers of the idea, Nilo Jr.
