The Lock state then holds the funds securely in the vault, preventing either party from unilaterally moving assets until the agreed terms or milestones are met.

 

Once conditions are satisfied, the escrow moves to the Release state, sending payment to the designated recipient. This release can occur automatically via smart contract logic or through specific preset triggers configured during contract creation. However, the rules and triggers remain immutable after deployment, supporting predictable outcomes.

 

The Dispute or Cancel state is reserved for cases where disagreements or unexpected issues arise between parties. In these scenarios, funds may be refunded to the sender or redirected to arbitration according to the contract rules. Pi Network said this structure is meant to balance flexibility with transparent on-chain behavior, giving users a defined path for escrow dispute resolution.

 

Targeted use cases across the Pi ecosystem
