Wildcard’s WC token goes live on Arbitrum on 26th March

Positioned as an 100% community-focused token, Wildcard’s WC is finally going liquid on 26th March.

The token first went live in March 2025 on the Base blockchain when 20% of the 88.89 million total supply was airdropped into wallets holding Wildcard NFTs. However, these tokens have remained locked into wallets, available only to buy assets in the game’s Wildcard Premier League metagame on the Thousands’ platform.

The 26th March launch will see the token go live on the Arbitrum blockchain, allowing players to buy and sell it for the first time on the WC/USDC pair. The airlocked airdropped tokens will also be unlocked at this point.

As for WC’s utility, players use it to buy franchise summons in Wildcard Premier League. These are the same character cards used by players in the web2 Wildcard PC game but aren’t connected to the game. Instead, they offer their holders the opportunity to be cashed in for USDC via the WC treasury. However, payouts are not guaranteed, in part because each summon is valid only for a limited time, and the offers are probabilistic based on your leaderboard position. You need to have completed a KYC process to buy summons in the first place.

WC is also given away as a reward in another element of Wildcard Premier League whereby players spend USDC to buy sponsorships, which generate rewards based on the real-world performance of Wildcard players.

In this way, developer Playful Studios hopes WC’s value will reflect broader economic activity within the Wildcard ecosystem, with players purchasing it directly to acquire franchise summons that reward the best traders with more USDC than they spent.

In addition, 70% of the token’s total supply has been earmarked for rewards, in part through the sponsorship mechanic, in which payers spend USDC to get WC, again, with the best traders hoping to generate rewards at a rate higher than that provided by the WC/USDC liquidity pool.

The token is also strongly deflationary, with 50% of the WC spent buying summons burned.
