BPMG acquires Cooking Adventure IP to expand its blockchain gaming ambitions
South Korean blockchain company BPMG is looking to combine blockchain into its future plans as it announces a strategic partnership with game developer Grampus.
The deal will see BPMG becoming a joint owner of the Cooking Adventure game IP, also taking over full operation control of the game as its development and liveops team moves from Grampus to BPMG. The time-management restaurant game originally launched through Facebook in 2016. Since then, however, it’s grown strongly, particularly on mobile, with over 33 million downloads racked up.
Known as My Little Chef in South Korea, Cooking Adventure has also been popular in Japan and Taiwan, with BPMG looking to expand the brand in part by targeting new platforms.
These will include a PC version that will be released on Steam and an HTML5 browser-based version for instant play.
BPMG’s first concern will be the release of web2 experiences that grow the brand, before it looks to add the web3 elements that it hopes will optimize key metrics such as retention, engagement and monetization through its GemHUB ecosystem.
BPMG has previous experience through its Blomics subsidiary, which runs web2 games including TalesRunners, and EOS RED and EOS BLACK.
“Securing a globally proven game IP along with an outstanding development team is particularly meaningful,” noted BPMG’s CEO Ji-hoon Cha.
“We plan to expand into new platforms and create sustainable growth opportunities.”
