Yuga Labs launches Otherside game Outbreak into beta
Continuing to expand its always-on Otherside metaverse, Yuga Labs’ latest title Outbreak has launched into a three-week beta test.
Similar to Yuga’s recently launched 8v8 shooter Bathroom Blitz, Outbreak is built with the Otherside Development Kit. The game has been in development “for months”.
Described as a zombie infection game, Yuga co-founder and CEO Greg Solano, aka Garga, specified that “one guy’s got the plague and he’s got to chase everybody down and get them infected. Then at the end of the round, it’s a timed match, either the survivors win or the infected win”.
The first map available will be “small” with larger maps opened up as the experience progresses.
While previously keeping its experiences exclusive to a core community revolving around Yuga’s various projects – including holders of Bored Apes, Meebs, Kodas, Moonbirds and Voyagers – Outbreak will not be tokengated.
As it aims to onboard new players into its persistent metaverse Otherside, Yuga allows anyone to play the game.
In preparation for the Otherside launch earlier in 2025, the metaverse broke the Guinness World Record for most concurrent players ever in an online first-person shooter, hitting 2,197 players.
