How MSU 2.0 turns VIBE IP into vibrant ecosystem

After a successful first year, Nexon’s web3 arm Nexpace is now moving from operating MapleStory N as the first-party expression of its blockchain economy to positioning MapleStory Universe as infrastructure for third-party builders.

The label is MSU 2.0, and the mechanism is VIBE IP, a system that brings together IP, AI-powered creation tools, and onchain licensing and settlement into one seamless flow.

In this way, VIBE IP is Nexpace’s attempt to solve one of the oldest problems in game IP; how do you let other people build with your characters, world and assets without either losing control or drowning in paperwork?

Rather than simply licensing characters and art, VIBE IP is pitched as structured access to MapleStory’s world, data, gameplay context and creation assets, combined with AI-powered creation tools and automatic on-chain licensing, payment and settlement.

Builders don’t need prior licensing approval, a full development studio, coding fluency, or even a registered business to receive revenue. The commercial terms are embedded programmatically in a smart contract.

You build, you launch, and the economics are handled by the protocol.

It’s a deliberately low-friction model. Most game IP holders either lock everything behind legal gatekeeping or open it up and risk losing coherence. Nexpace is trying to find the middle ground: broader access with embedded economic rules.

If it works, MapleStory’s IP becomes a platform rather than a product: something other people build businesses on top of, rather than something Nexpace has to fill with content.

CEO Sun Young Hwang frames the ambition explicitly, writing, “I know this may sound ambitious, but I hope to see builders generate more revenue from MapleStory IP than Nexpace itself”.

For the record, Nexpace generated $31 million from MapleStory Universe in 2025.

This positions Nexpace as something closer to a protocol operator than a traditional game studio, taking a cut of activity it enables rather than trying to create all the value directly.

To back this goal, Nexpace has committed up to $50 million in ecosystem funding, targeting builder-led projects across AI tools, financial infrastructure, and the creator economy. Whether that translates into genuine activity or just another round of grants-for-vaporware will be the test of whether the model is real.

MSU is also linked to Verse8, the AI-powered game creation platform in which Nexpace has made a strategic investment.

For VIBE IP builders, the idea is to reduce the friction between an IP-based idea and a playable derivative experience. Verse8 is not really a distribution network yet. It’s more accurately the AI creation layer Nexpace hopes can help everyone turn MapleStory IP into playable content.

The practical details of that integration remain thin, but strategically it fits the wider MSU 2.0 direction. Nexpace does not just want professional developers building on MapleStory Universe. It wants to lower the threshold for who counts as a developer.

However, the fundamental question VIBE IP raises isn’t whether MSU 2.0 can attract builders. Ecosystem funds can always attract applicants. It’s whether programmatic IP access changes the economics of fan-created and derivative content in games.

Every major IP holder from Nintendo to Sony and EA sits on enormous creative demand it either cannot or will not service. Players want to make things. Fans want to extend worlds. Modders, creators and small teams want to build around existing characters, systems and communities. The problem has always been control, coherence and commercial rights.

VIBE IP is Nexpace’s attempt to turn that problem into infrastructure. If it can demonstrate that structured, permissionless IP access works without degrading the MapleStory brand, the model will be watched well beyond blockchain gaming.
