Nexpace announces $10 million NXPC buyback

Nexpace, the operator behind MapleStory Universe, has announced an NXPC token buyback program worth up to $10 million.

The buyback will be executed over three months through multiple tranches, with open-market purchases delegated to an external execution partner to minimize market disruption. Purchased tokens will not be burned. Instead, they will be retained in the company treasury for future ecosystem use, giving Nexpace a reserve it can deploy later without minting new supply.

This is not the project’s first token intervention. Nexpace has already burned around 8.3 million NXPC tokens as part of a broader effort to tighten circulation as the platform scales.

The timing is important too. After one year of operating MapleStory Universe, anchored by its MapleStory N PC game, Nexpace is now shifting attention to the wider ecosystem through MSU 2.0. The ambition is to move from being the sole content operator to building infrastructure that lets third-party developers, creators and IP partners generate value on top of MapleStory.

For the record, MapleStory Universe generated around $31 million during its first year.

Equally telling is Nexpace’s claim that in Q1 2026, player spending inside MapleStory N exceeded the NXPC distributed back to players as rewards. That does not prove the whole economy is permanently sustainable, but it is an important marker: value is now flowing into the system at a greater rate than reward emissions are flowing out.

That is the point at which a buyback starts to make strategic sense. If the economy is showing signs of organic demand, using external capital to absorb circulating tokens can support the token structure without relying only on inflationary incentives.

The decision to retain the repurchased NXPC rather than burn it is also worth noting.

Burning is permanent, simple and visible. Treasury retention is less dramatic but more flexible. It gives Nexpace optionality. Those tokens can be held out of circulation, used to support the VIBE IP builder ecosystem, distributed through grants, or released strategically as the platform expands. That is more sophisticated than the burn-everything playbook that dominated earlier crypto gaming cycles, although it also requires trust that the treasury will be managed carefully.

Whether up to $10 million moves the needle will depend on NXPC’s liquidity and float. The token’s price is down 91% since launch but up 37% over the past three months.

But a year in, MapleStory Universe is managing its token economy more like an ongoing operating business than a launch campaign.

In blockchain gaming, that still counts as unusual.
