Hytopia game jam starts 23rd October with winner getting intern post
Blockchain-based UGC platform Hytopia is launching its next game jam on Thursday 23rd October, with the creator of the winning game getting a “hands-on internship” with the Hytopia team.
Launching in conjunction with Itch.io, all the games must be made using the Hytopia SDK and posted on the Hytopia platform.
Using AI tools is allowed and encouraged.
There will also be a theme for the jam, which will be announced when it goes live.
“As bootstrap developers ourselves, both Braydon and I know how challenging it can be to break into games,” said Hytopia founder Max Holmes.
“This internship is an opportunity for the next SpyderSammy or Jandel to take their talents to the next level and perhaps get their game featured on the Hytopia platform.”
Combining the best bits of Minecraft and Roblox, Hytopia allows users to make experiences using TypeScript and JavaScript. It also has its own map editor and hundreds of premade assets to use, while the SDK handles more complex functionality such as multiplayer and server backend.
The game jam will end on Monday 27th October, after which there will be a four day period during which anyone who has submitted a game can rate other submissions.
The Hytopia team will then play the top 10 rated games and decide the winners, with the third placed game dev getting $100, second place $200 and the winner $300 and the intern position.
To-date, Hytopia has generated 80,000 hours of gameplay from over 140,000 players.
