YGG completes $518,000 token buyback, also launches $7.5 million ecosystem pool

With the price of its YGG token close to an all-time-low, Yield Guild Games is fighting back, demonstrating it still sees plenty of opportunities for growth.

One recent success is its first “casual degen” game LOL Land, which has been generating a lot of revenue, in part because of its deployment on the Abstract blockchain meaning that players also earn XP for Abstract’s forthcoming token launch.

Although the game’s lifetime revenue hasn’t been disclosed, YGG claimed that the game generated $176,000 on Sunday 3rd August alone.

Indeed, YGG has already been using some of its profits, spending 135 ETH to buy back $518,000-worth of its own YGG token, again on the Abstract blockchain, although this hasn’t yet impacted the price.

“There has been a lot of negativity in Web3 gaming lately. But we believe it is here to stay, and we are no stranger to the ups and downs of each cycle. We are at a good place right now, and this buyback reflects YGG’s continued focus on long-term ecosystem development,” said YGG co-founder Gabby Dizon.

“There’s a lot more coming for YGG in 2025 — from upcoming game launches to enhanced platform features and expanded use of the YGG token within the community.”

In addition to the news that it’s launching its publishing arm YGG Play, Yield Guild Games has also set up a new ecosystem pool with 50 million YGG tokens, worth around $7.5 million.

This will be managed by a new organization, which is one of YGG’s autonomous Onchain Guilds.

Co-led by YGG corporate development manager Serge-Raymond Nzabandora and head of corporate development Andy Chou, its mission is to “explore yield-generating strategies” through the active management of treasury assets.

To fulfil this mission, it could support projects aligned with YGG’s gaming footprint, including casual degen games, but its main goal is to make money in the crypto economy, with its profits being used to support YGG’s long-term mission.
