NGO from Rio closes partnership to train peripheral young people in blockchain and Web3
The NGO Educar+ announced yet another initiative focused on bringing education to peripheral youth. In partnership with the UNISUAM faculty, Jovem Tech was created, a training program in blockchain e Web3 for young people over 18 from Complexos da Maré, Alemão and Manguinhos, communities located in Rio de Janeiro .
Web3 and blockchain training
A statement sent to Cointelegraph Brasil says that, after learning about the work of Educar+, UNISUAM invited the NGO to take blockchain classes to the college. Thus, Jovem Tech was included in Pólen, the educational institution's innovation center.
Carol Santos, founder and CEO of Educar+, says that the NGO's technology pillar aims to impact as many peripheral lives as possible through blockchain.
“Fortunately, we are not alone on this journey. The partnership with Pólen Unisuam is yet another one that will guarantee ways to expand our operations, allowing our goal that the change we are working on in Chapadão to reach all the favelas of Rio de Janeiro happens”, says Santos.
The Jovem Tech will last six weeks, and will be held in person at the headquarters of UNISUAM, in Bonsucesso, in Rio de Janeiro. During the program, blockchain technology, as well as its Web3 application, will be made available to participants. In addition, there will also be classes on professional growth.
“The blockchain course is an excellent opportunity to transform the lives of young people from the favelas, providing new possibilities for work and entrepreneurship, with a focus on combating social inequalities”, says Arapuan Motta, Rector of UNISUAM.
Hard work
The Jovem Tech initiative is an extension of the work done by Educar+ in Complexo do Chapadão, bringing new technologies to the community on a daily basis. Currently, more than 100 children assisted by the NGO already have their own collection of NFTs and a reading app with student authored books. In addition, Educar+ already has an international award, won during a hackathon.
2023 has been a particularly busy year for the NGO. In January, it was announced a partnership between Educar+ and a Polygon , which chose to open its first Tech House in Brazil . Through ImpactPlus, its impact arm, Polygon renovated a room at the NGO's premises, and provided new computers so that young people could enhance their studies, which include Web3.
In March, the artist Albarte, born in Complexo do Chapadão, donated three of his works of art , sold as NFTs from the Borderless Money collection, to Educar+. Half of the amount collected with the works was destined to the NGO.
According to Educar+, the professional and educational independence of the slum dweller is their greatest life-changing weapon and sees technology as a great facilitator.
