Gree announces entry into the web3 business, aiming for blockchain game development
Gree enters web3 business
Gree announced on September 27 that it will enter the web3 business. Through its wholly-owned subsidiary REALITY, GREE will utilize its know-how and experience to develop and publish blockchain games.
In addition, GREE aims to grow the web3 business, and is "a lead position for game designers, engineers and artists who are responsible for developing blockchain games", and "a blockchain engineer and smart contract responsible for developing chains for our own games, NFT marketplaces and wallets." The company also announced that it will strengthen its hiring activities for engineers.
In addition to entering the web3 business, GREE will also operate validator nodes for other leading blockchains. A validator is a node (computer terminal) or its operator that connects to the blockchain network and verifies whether transactions on the chain are correct.
In July, Gree announced that it had participated as an initial validator for Oasys, a blockchain project specializing in games.
In addition to Glee, the initial validators of "Oasys" include Aster Network, Bandai Namco Research Institute, BOBG, Com2uS, CryptoGames, doublejump.tokyo, gumi, jump, MCH, netmarble, neowiz, SEGA, Thirdverse, UBISOFT, WEMADE, bitFlyer Blockchain (BitFlyer Blockchain), Mythical Games, and Square Enix are participating.
In addition, GREE announced in August last year that it would enter the Metaverse business, aiming for hundreds of millions of users globally by investing 10 billion yen in the business over the next two to three years.
